LANSING, Mich. — A messy day ahead. Soaking rain from this morning tapers off to scattered light rain this afternoon. It will be windy with southwest winds 20-30 MPH sustained and gusts over 40 MPH possible. Temperatures start in the mid 40s this morning but will be cooling down into the 30s by this afternoon. As temperatures drop rain turns to light flurries this evening. Snow picks up starting at around midnight and will continue through the day Tuesday. Temperatures fall into the upper 20s overnight. Light snow expected tomorrow with about 1-3" of accumulation by Tuesday night. We will see snow wrap up Tuesday evening with just a few isolated flurries lingering past midnight. It will be cold for New Year's Eve plans but at least it will be mostly dry. Highs tomorrow in the low 30s with lows overnight in the mid 20s. We are dry as we kick off the New Year Wednesday with highs in the mid 30s and mostly sunny skies. Brief warm up Thursday and Friday with highs in the mid 40s and scattered showers. Rain turns to snow Saturday as temperatures return to the 30s.
