LANSING, Mich. — A system approaching from the south will bring light snow to parts of the area today. Light snow will last on and off through the day. Some locations to the south may see some heavier snow, especially south and east of I-69. Accumulations should be minor, generally an inch or less of snow is expected in the Mid-Michigan area. Snow totals could approach 1-2″ closer to Detroit and far southeastern Michigan. Slick spots may develop on area roadways with temperatures remaining below freezing throughout the day. A few lingering snow showers will be possible tonight with mostly cloudy skies and lows in the mid 20s.

Thursday will be mostly cloudy with a few flurries possible. Temperatures will be seasonable in the lower 30s Thursday afternoon. Slightly warmer air will build in for Friday. Skies will be partly sunny and temperatures will climb into the mid 30s.

Another system will move in over the weekend, bringing scattered rain and snow showers to the area on Saturday. A rain snow mix may linger into Sunday morning, but most areas will just see mostly cloudy skies. Highs will be in the upper 30s both Saturday and Sunday.

Milder air will build in early next work week. Temperatures will rise into the low 40s Monday and upper 30s on Tuesday. Monday is also the Winter solstice and signals the start of winter.
