WSYM — According to the Weather Authority Team, the city of Lansing has gotten just under 43 inches of snow this season.
That number pales in comparison to the number dumped on a city just west of Marquette.
Weather Authority Meteorologist Jim Holton says over two-hundred inches of snow has accumulated.
The Marquette National Weather Service, located in Negaunee Township just west of Marquette, passed the 200 inch barrier with Sunday's storm, now sitting at 202 inches for the season.
That number in itself is not all that uncommon, they typically have a 200 plus inch snowfall one out of every three years...
What is uncommon is the amount of snow on the ground right now, which is nearly five feet.
Sunday's storm dumped over 16 inches of snow, a new daily snowfall record for February 24th, that brought the total amount of snow currently on the ground to 55 inches which is getting close to their all-time record of 63 inches from March of 1997.
The Marquette area averages 189 inches of snow during a season dating back to 1970.
The record-setting season in Marquette was in 2002-2003 -- when nearly 320 inches of snow fell.
