He's about as close of a surrogate as you can get. Donald Trump Junior visited East Lansing Wednesday to stump for his father.
With six days until the election, Michigan is looking more and more like a battleground state.
The atmosphere inside Michigan State University’s Union Ballroom was energetic to say the least.
“It's great to be on a college campus and have young people that are not afraid to be conservative, to be able to break out of that safe space,” said Trump Jr.
Speaking to a crowd of over 100 people, Trump Jr. says vote for his father is a vote for taking on career politicians.
“This is the first generation that we know we are handing down our kids a lesser America with less opportunity, and less hope,” said Trump Jr. “It's because of politicians so let’s shake up this system and let’s drain the swamp.”
Many supporters came to hear the speech.
“He said a lot of good things,” said MSU freshman Ian Detoryer. “I’ve been supporting him since the primaries so I really wanted to go here today.”
But outside the ballroom ... A much different scene.
MSU’s student group Cultura de las Razas Unidas organized a crowd of protesters making it known not everyone is thrilled with this visit.
“We don't care the color of your skin, who you worship, who you love, or where you come from,” said Dan Eggerding, MSU’s College Democrat’s president. “MSU is a diverse place and we're excited that we all get to share each other's experience in life and learn from each other and be stronger together.”
“These students are upset that this white male nationalist rhetoric of Donald Trump and his campaign surrogates are here and are spreading that on campus,” said Eggerding.
As we inch closer to Election Day in America both parties urge the importance to get out and vote next Tuesday.
After today's speech at MSU, Trump Jr. traveled to Grand Valley State University in Allendale for a rally.
