Over 15 years, MSU students involved in the Multicultural Business Programs Summer Business Institute (SBI) have donated over $6,600 in school supplies to Lansing Public Schools for the annual "Stuff the Bus!" event.
This year, students have collected $500 worth of supplies and on September 9, 2016 they will deliver them to Shabazz Public School Academy during an assembly.
SBI is a program for incoming freshman business majors at MSU. The program teaches students to career development, leadership, problem solving and involves community service projects like "Stuff the Bus!"
"The annual visit to Shabazz Public School Academy is a chance for the MSU freshmen to connect with students in the Lansing community," said program coordinator Anne Samuel Crain, in a press release.
In the past, SBI has donated supplies to Lansing Public Schools, Red Cedar Elementary in East Lansing and New City Academy in Lansing.
“It is a powerful time during the Summer Business Institute. It gives students a chance to reflect on the heroes who helped them overcome obstacles and become successful," Crain said. "Now they have a chance to be a hero to a child in the Lansing community. Stuff the Bus completes the circle of support."
