With sunny skies and temperatures in the low 70's Friday afternoon, fans can't ask for a better day to kick off the Spartan's football season.
"I've always been a Spartan fan," said MSU freshman Kenny Senica. "It's just the atmosphere around here, it's great to finally be a Spartan."
Thousands of students and fans are expected to fill the stands at Spartan Stadium tonight.
While some will be watching the game, others will be working at it.
"I'm excited but I've seen everything that goes behind it all and all the people that have to be here to make sure it runs smoothly," said Madison Young. "I'm kind of scared about it but I know it's going to be a great time."
At the Spartan Cafe on Lake Lansing Road in East Lansing, the first game seemed to be the talk of the cafe.
Many have high expectations for the team this year.
"I'm confident that the new quarterback Tyler O'Connor, (the season) is full of ups and downs but I think that they'll prevail in the end," said MSU student Raquel Izzo.
Even former Furman Paladin players Craig Morgan and Jeremiah Van Dora drove up to Michigan to see the game.
"I'm sure Michigan State is going to have a great team again this year, they've been great for a while but hopefully Furman can compete with them and have a good game," said Van Dora.
A football fan or not, students say it's nights like tonight that bring everyone together.
"I've met a lot of great friends just being next to people at a football game so I know it brings a lot of friendships together," said Young.
This is Michigan State's last home game for a while, the Spartans are off next week and are at Notre Dame the following week.
The brand new lights installed at the stadium during the off season will be put to use for the first time Friday.
