Scam targets college students

Scammers are targeting college students saying they will help them receive a discount on tuition, The MSU Police Department says.

The scam misleads students to believe their tuition has been paid.

According to the MSU Technology website, students are asked to provide their MSU login credentials, and then the scammers use a stolen credit card to pay the tuition. Once this is done, the students are directed to use a wire or other check transfer service to pay the scammer at a discounted rate.

The credit card transaction is then reversed because it is fraudulent, and students are left owing their tuition.

MSU police are asking students who have been affected by this scam, to contact the department at 517-355-2221.
