Ronald Chandler, assistant professor in the College of Human Medicine’s Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Biology, has received a 2017 Liz Tilberis Early Career Award from the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance.

The Liz Tilberis Early Career Award recognizes junior faculty who are committed to an investigative career in the field of ovarian cancer research. The intent of these awards is to support a substantial time commitment to research and academic endeavors in ovarian cancer.

Chandler received theCombination Therapyaward for his study, “Integrated Roles of Epigenetics and Cell Signaling in Ovarian Cancer.”

“We believe our research will be invaluable at judging the benefit of combination therapies and identifying the potential biomarkers associated with early detection and drug efficacy,” Chandler said.

This year’s awards have been presented to the top 20 scientists at 13 leading medical centers across the country.

“Our 2017 grantees are among the best and brightest working in the field,” said Jeff Boyd, director of translational research and genomic medicine at Miami Cancer Institute.

Boyd, who is also the chair of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance’s scientific advisory committee, said these research projects tackle the most pressing issues in ovarian cancer today, focusing largely on the biology of ovarian cancer and novel therapeutic approaches including immunotherapy.
