It's simply known to Spartans as the Rock.
Situated outside the Auditorium on the north bank of the Red Cedar, the campus landmark serves as a billboard for everything from campus events to student groups, memorials to movements. A symbol of the Spartan Spirit, the Rock represents the diverse experiences and interests of its students — an ever-changing snapshot of time sealed in layers of thick paint.
Now, a new book will explore those layers of the Rock's history. Currently available for preorder, "The Rock: Layered in MSU Tradition"is expected to be released later this summer.
The book features a year's worth of photos taken by students and staff of the President's office, who put together the book alongside local designers and writers. It also highlights several core themes of MSU as they have been expressed through the Rock, including but not limited to diversity, activism and Spartan Spirit.
"The Rock: Layered in MSU Tradition" costs $35 and is available for preorder here.
