Michigan State has soared into the top 100 of another major ranking – the university’s third high-profile distinction in the past three months.

Times Higher Education of London today ranked MSU #83 in its 2017 global assessment, an 18-place improvement over 2016.

The ranking puts Michigan State in the top 8 percent of 1,102 universities assessed around the world.

Times Higher Education ranks universities on 13 variables in several broad categories including teaching, research and international outlook.

Among the 157 U.S. universities ranked by Times Higher Education, MSU came in at #37, up five places from 2016.

The honor comes on the heels of Washington Monthly’s August rankings of the top universities in the United States. MSU ranked #38 in Washington Monthly's assessment.

In July, Money Magazine ranked Michigan State 30th in its Best Colleges for Your Money assessment. That put the university in the top 1.5 percent of the 2,400 U.S. colleges considered for the ranking.

MSU has climbed steadily in Money’s ranking, rising from #122 in 2014, to #109 in 2015, to #54 in 2016, to #30 this year.
