An MSU basketball trainer was in Monroe County District Court Wednesday for a preliminary examination in connection with a fatal crash over the summer.
Todd Moyer, 37, was charged with reckless driving causing death. He faces up to 15 years in prison, and fines from $2,500 to $10,000.
Moyer is the strength and conditioning coach for the Spartan men's basketball team.
The crash happened July 14th on U.S 23 north of Summerfield Road.
Authorities say a pickup truck driven by 37-year-old Todd Moyer struck the rear of a car on U.S. 23 in southeastern Michigan. Thirty-five-year-old Gladys Johnson and her 5-year-old daughter were killed. The county prosecutor's office says Moyer was texting while driving. Police say he was driving distracted in his 2007 Dodge Ram Truck and crashed into several cars.
Gladys Johnson, 35, of Redford, and Za-Kira Johnson, 5, were pronounced dead at the scene.
