She made headlines for being a whistle blower to alert people of the led in the water in Flint, now she returns to her old stomping grounds to be recognized for her work.
She said the award meant a lot to her and she could not believe that she was going to be receiving an award that other legends of Michigan State University have received, "there are hundreds and hundreds of thousands of MSU alumni all over the world doing amazing things, to be highlighted, and spotlighted for my work which is ongoing in Flint is an incredible recognition."
She says that despite the lack of media coverage the problem in Flint still exists, and she isn't going to stop working until the problem goes away.
Other notable alumni honored tonight were Magic Johnson and his wife Cookie. They weren't able to make the ceremony, because it was the opening night for the Los Angeles Lakers.
