Michigan State redshirt freshman quarterback Brian Lewerke will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a broken tibia during Saturday's game against Michigan, Mark Dantonio told the media Sunday evening.
Lewerke was taken down by Jabrill Peppers in the fourth quarter of the Spartans 32-23 loss to Michigan. He had to be helped off the field, and did not return.
Dantonio confirmed Lewerke will not need surgery.
Lewerke played in four games for the Spartans this season, including two starts.
The injury makes an already complicated quarterback situation even more daunting. Tyler O'Connor, Damion Terry and Lewerke all played on Saturday.
