Medical amnesty law protects students

With thousands of students now on the Michigan State University campus, there are sure to be parties and alcohol. That has East Lansing Police reminding students about staying safe and looking out for each other.

Officers are reminding students of a state law that protects underage drinkers who need medical help.

Under Michigan's Medical Amnesty Law, anyone younger than 21 can call 911 and get medical help if they or someone their with has had too much to drink. When they call, they will not face criminal prosecution.
