Camp Kesem at MSU, a non-profit and student-led organization, is hosting their largest fundraising event of the year on Saturday, April 16th, 2016 at Walnut Hill Country Club.
Make the Magicwill be a dinner and auction event, hosted by camp staff and counselors. Prizes will include gift cards to box seating at sporting events. The night will also include guest speakers from the camp.
Camp Kesem is a non-profit and student-led organization that helps children who have a parent battling cancer.
This organization has over 70 chapters in 34 states. Michigan State University's chapter was founded in 2006 and is led by 50 student volunteers.
Eliza Doll, marketing and public relations coordinator for Camp Kesem at MSU, joined the camp counselor crew two years ago.
"It's really awesome to see how much fun they have during this week because the other 51 weeks of the year worrying about their parents health and they're pretty sad most of the time," Doll said. "So our goal is to let them have fun for one week."
The camp staff spends all year raising money to send 130 children to YMCA Camp Pinewood for five days.
It costs $500 to send one child to camp. The goal of Make the Magic is to reach $25,000 which would cover one-fourth of the total cost for the year.
The campers will head to YMCA Camp Pinewood at Twin Lake, Michigan on August 14-20, 2016.
