Posted

Local students won a top award at a Michigan State University robotics competition Sunday.

The Haslette Vex Raptors won the Excellence Award and are also part of Tournament Champions coalition of three teams.

Thousands of students and dozens of teams competed in the robotics competition hosted at MSU this weekend.

MSU's Dean of the College of Education said Michigan produces top competitors in robotics competitions.

"We have historically always placed very well in the large competitions both at nationals and the world competition," said Dean Leo Kempel.

Fifteen high school and six middle school teams are now advancing to the world competition.
