The Nassar Case, Band Director John Madden’s sexual harassment suspension, and accusations that football player Demetrius Cooper spit in an officer’s face, all have combined to tarnish Michigan State University’s Reputation - leaving MSU's image not looking the brightest.
“When you have case upon case, you just hope and cross your fingers that there is nothing else out there,” says John Truscott, president of public relations agency Truscott Rossman.
The first step for MSU to move forward is to be transparent.
“People are willing to give someone or an institution a second chance if they admit their failing,” he said. “Once MSU does that, there needs to be a corrective action plan.”
In the Nassar case, Truscott says there are a lot of vulnerable young girls who lives may have been impacted.
“MSU must apologize,” he mentions.
And in the case of the MSU football investigation, the university should get the facts, apologize, and layout the corrective action plan ,” Truscott said.
He also stresses other athletes should not be penalized.
"Don't punish innocent people , athletes, and coaching staff who are not a part of this or who don’t have any knowledge," he adds." Those are the key people who will be counted on to rebuild the program."
Truscott also says MSU's football and gymnastics recruiting may take a short-term hit, but will eventuallyl recover.
