July 8th 2016 A fast moving powerful storm barrels through Mid Michigan downing trees, cutting power and leaving chaos.

Among the damage is 21 very mature trees, some more than 200 years old, are lost on MSU's campus.

"When you look at some of the trees that came down and you look at the beautiful wood that's in these trees it's almost a shame it's almost criminal to grind it up into wood chips," says Frank Telewski, Curator of Beal Botanical Gardens on MSU

So an idea that had been germinating for years suddenly came to life.

Taking the trees and turning them into useful products that would be of interest to Spartan fans everywhere. MSU Shadows was born.

A program where the wood from tress lost on campus either from disease or disaster is repurposed and used to make one of a kind furniture pieces and other useful items, all works of art, with a history unique to MSU.
