This Saturday, April 16th, 2016 marks the fourth annual Sigma Chi Puck Off Cancer Classic at Munn Ice Arena at 5 p.m.
The event features two hockey games played between four fraternities –Fiji vs. Sig Ep at 5 p.m. and Sigma Chi vs. SAE at 7 p.m.
All proceeds generated will be donated to the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Utah, to benefit cancer research and treatment. Over the past three years, Sigma Chi has donated over $25,000.
After playing in the second annual Puck Off Cancer Classic, SAE brother Alex Berlin was diagnosed with cancer.
"Throughout the game, he was playing with a tumor on his fibula," said his brother Chandler Berlin of SAE. "He thought it was just a bump and then in May he was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma."
Ewing's Sarcomais a type of cancer cell that forms in bone or soft tissue and is most commonly found in young adults.
Near his college graduation, Alex found out he would need to undergo an aggressive treatment of radiation. Two years later, Alex is free of cancer and is finishing up his final treatments.
