A dangerous spider has been found in Mid-Michigan. The new discovery was in a garage in Genesee County. Scientists at the MSU Extension find it interesting. They say cold winter temperatures usually keep the brown recluse from surviving outside.
The spiders are usually brown or gray and have what looks like a violin marking on their backs. They like wood piles, sheds and cellars but they're also known to hang out in shoes, folded sheets and clothes that haven't moved in a while.
They usually run or play dead when threatened, but will bite when pressed against the skin. That bite can be deadly, especially to children or people with weakened immune systems.
