USA Gymnastics has announced the resignation of CEO and President of the organization, Steve Penny.
The announcement came after Penny told the USA Gymnastics Board of Directors during a conference call to discuss filling a Board vacancy, and other official business.
The organization says they will initiate a national search for a new president and CEO. While the search is underway, Board Chair Paul Parilla will lead the organization's operations. USA Gymnastics is currently working on initiatives to refine its policies and procedures for handling sexual misconduct.
The organization has been named in several lawsuits, along with Dr. Larry Nassar, and MSU over allegations of sexual abuse by Nassar.
Dr. Larry Nassar was employed by the Olympic organization as a team physician who treated gymnasts. Nassar is accused of multiple counts of sexual assault and misconduct by former patients. USA Gymnastics says they fired Nassar in 2015 in response to athlete complaints.
