EAST LANSING, MI —? At the beginning of this academic year, the ?Associated Students of Michigan State University (ASMSU)?, the undergraduate student government, set a goal to bring a presidential primary candidate to campus.

Extensive research and planning resulted in ASMSU attempting to host one or more candidates on campus before the presidential primary on March 8, 2016. ?Senator

Bernie Sanders ?will speak to students and community members from across Michigan at the ?Jack Breslin Student Events Center? in ?East Lansing? on the evening of ?March 2, 2016?.

“ASMSU believes inviting Senator Sanders to speak on campus will help students connect to their political process, participate in meaningful conversations with their peers and understand that voting is the cornerstone of American democracy,” said ASMSU Vice President for Governmental Affairs, Bryn Williams?. “In efforts to

maintain ASMSU’s commitment to nonpartisanship, the Office of Governmental Affairs communicated with campaigns from both political parties and acted as a facilitating body, choosing to not spend tax dollars on the event.”

Tickets will be free?, and capacity for the event is around ?13,000?. The event will be general admission, with ?an online RSVP process through the Sanders Campaign?.
