Alex's Great State Race

Posted

Something great has come out of the Michigan State - Michigan rivalry.

It's called "Alex's Great State Race," an event to raise money and awareness to student disability services at both schools. The event is now in its third year.

R.O.T.C. cadets from University of Michigan and Michigan State University run the game ball 64-miles from one university to the other the day before the game.

The tradition was started by the parents of M.S.U. student Alex Powell who died of cancer in 2011.

Powell benefited from M.S.U.'s Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities" and also received cancer treatments at U-of-M.

The race begins at 4:30 Friday morning outside the big house in Ann Arbor.

It should finish around 1:30 at Dem Hall field on M.S.U.'s campus near the Sparty statue.

The runners will present the game ball to coach Mark Dantonio when they arrive.
