LANSING, Mich. — UPDATE: Today’s soccerfest is rain or shine event. There will be plenty of covered activities at the ballpark, photos and autographs with Lansing Ignite players, a $1 value menu and, of course, the televised grudge match with Team USA’s rival Sweden. Join us!

FOX 47 and Lansing Ignite are teaming up to host Mid-Michigan’s largest watch party ever. On Thursday, June 20, fans of all ages are invited to come and cheer for the USA Women’s Soccer team as they take on Sweden in the Women’s World Cup at Cooley Law School Stadium in downtown Lansing. While FOX 47 will be the airing the game, Vice President/GM Gary Baxter felt it was an opportunity for fans of all ages to come together. “Most of us remember seeing the scenes from Grant Park in Chicago of fans coming together to celebrate the US Women winning the World Cup in 2015 and we thought, why not do that here?”

The first question was where to hold the event? “That was an easy one”, Baxter says, “we have a professional soccer team right here in Lansing playing at one of the finest venues in the country. We reached out to the team and got the ball rolling.” In addition to the game, Baxter says it was important to have a variety of events designed to appeal to fans of all ages. “We just really want this to be a fun experience for everyone, we’ll have on field soccer clinics hosted by Ignite players and our community partners have really stepped up to help make it a memorable day for fans of all ages.”

In addition to airing the game and the on-field clinics, there will be USA themed face decorating, autograph and photo opportunities as well as a variety of soccer themed games and free mini soccer balls for the first 250 kids through the gates. Baxter explains “We want to provide a fun, free event for fans of all ages that want to come together and, hopefully, cheer our team to victory.”

The gates of Cooley Law School Stadium will open at 1:00pm. On-field clinics are open the first 250 kids will be held between 1:30 and 2:30 pm. Festivities for the match between US and Sweden will begin at 2:45 with the ball drop at around 3pm.
