(WXYZ) -- West Bloomfield running back Donovan Edwards was presented Friday with the state's Mr. Football award for the 2020 season.
The award is judged on and presented annually by State Champs! Sports Network to Michigan's most outstanding high school football player.
Edwards made the decision in January not to enroll early at the University of Michigan and instead stay with his high school team, helping the Lakers win their first state championship.
Edwards rushed for 257 yards and three touchdowns in West Bloomfield's 41-0 win over Davison in the Division 1 Championship at Ford Field.
"It means a lot," Edwards said upon receiving the award. "It means I'm going down as one of the top players that came out of Michigan. This award means a lot to a lot of people, so I'm very blessed and I'm very thankful that God put me in this position."
