The Detroit Tigers open the 2017 MLB season on Monday afternoon against the Chicago White Sox and fans across Detroit are ready for the season.
Baseball means many different things for many different people. Late Tigers broadcaster Ernie Harwell gave his definition of baseball in the video below, given during his 1981 hall of fame induction speech.
For Harwell, it means so much. A president tossing out the first pitch, a spirited race, man against man.
"Baseball, it's just a game, as simple as a ball and bat and yet as complex as the American spirit it symbolizes," he said in the video. "It's a sport, a business, sometimes, almost a religion."
