University of Michigan Men's Hockey Coach Red Berenson has announced he will return to coach the team next season, his 33rd behind the bench for the Wolverines.
Making the announcement at the Deckers Blue Line Club banquet, Berenson said he's "excited about the direction of the program and the challenge of working with our student-athletes to improve on a daily basis and achieve our goal of winning championships."
Named Big Ten Coach of the Year in 2016, Berenson lead the Wolverines to a 25-8-5 season and to the NCAA Tournament where they were eliminated in the Elite Eight by North Dakota.
"I look forward to Red continuing as our coach because of his leadership and commitment to academic and athletic excellence as well as his commitment to the University of Michigan," Athletic Director Warde Manuel said in a statement. "These are core principles that we stick by, and they have guided Coach Berenson's distinguished tenure at Michigan."
Berenson has a 835-407-89 record during his time in Michigan, including NCAA National Championships in 1996 and 1998.
