The Pistons practice facility is ready to open it's doors and help assist medical professionals in any way as they fight the Coronavirus outbreak in the city of Detroit.
“The primary concern of the Pistons is the health, safety and well being of our employees and our community, and everyone in this community and that comes first,” Pistons Vice Chairman Arn Tellem said.
The Pistons have made it clear, this space is open for use. Whether that’s to host patients with COVID-19, patients battling non-COVID-19 illnesses, or even a place to host health care professionals to rest or sleep. While the use of the facility is still up in the air, they do expect to open their doors soon, in some capacity.
“We just have gotten the reviews back from the Army Corps of Engineers that they like the facility, it’s under consideration, they’re looking for multiple places in the city, and not much more than that, so we’re sort of waiting and we won’t know specifically for another week or two as this crisis unfolds, to see where the apex is,” Tellem added.
The Pistons are no stranger to the impact the virus is having on us all. Forward Christian Wood is recovering from having the virus, while one of the organizations scouts is in a coma fighting for his life in Knoxville.
“When you know someone, it really strikes home what the impact is here, it’s very personal. I know we all know someone that’s been affected by this virus and our blessings and prayers go out to this entire community and we hope everyone stays healthy and we’re here to do what we can as an organization in the fight against this virus,” Tellem added.
