Tom Gores, owner of the Detroit Pistons, has announced today that he is going to raise $10 million for Flint relief efforts.

A press release from the office of the Detroit Pistons states Gores is a Flint native and will rally support from leaders to aid in the efforts.

He plans to raise the money to help with short-term and long-term initiatives to address the crisis. Gores' efforts will include personal contributions, benefits at his venues and the implementation of economic development programs.

“The issues facing Flint won’t be solved solely through government intervention and emergency support,” Mr. Gores said in a press release. “The private sector needs to play role here, and I am committed to helping drive that effort. I grew up in Flint, my family has strong roots there, and I believe in the people who live there.”
