The Detroit Pistons announced the name and logo for the new NBA G-League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise.
The team will play its game at the new arena on the campus of Wayne State beginning with the 2021-22 season.
In July, the Pistons announced they have purchased the G-League team in Arizona and would move it to Detroit.
The new team name is based on the city's automotive history. Dylan Martin of Grandville, Mich. was the winner of the fan naming contest. He was the first of 10 people to submit the name Motor City Cruise.
“After considering many clever submissions, we are excited to announce the Motor City Cruise as the next professional sports franchise for the city of Detroit,” Gores said. “We wanted Pistons fans to help us with the naming process and engage with our new brand from the beginning. Our new G League team will create an affordable entertainment option in Detroit and also play an important role in our player development goals."
