The Red Wings and Tomas Tatar couldn't agree on a contract, so they're leaving it up to an arbitrator to decide what the forward is worth.
Both sides spent four hours in arbitration together on Thursday.
The Red Wings want to pay Tatar $4.1 million for the upcoming season. His agent wants $5.3 million.
Now the arbitrator will make a ruling in the next 48 hours.
The Red Wings and Tatar can technically negotiate a contract until that decision is made, but once it is, they can't talk about a long-term contract until after January 1. Tatar would become an unrestricted free agent after next season.
The 26-year-old forward scored 25 goals last season, but most of his production came late in the year. That being said, he's led the team in goals collectively over the last three seasons with 75.
Tatar is reportedly looking for a contract worth $6 million a year over six or seven seasons, while the Red Wings reportedly offered a deal worth $5 million per season over five years.
