When asked Wednesday if he would like to spend his entire NFL career with the Detroit Lions, quarterback Matthew Stafford said, "It's not up to me."
Stafford added that he would love to play football for as long as he can and would "obviously love to be here".
The quarterback's contract is up after the 2017 season, so it is quite possible the Lions will re-sign him this upcoming offseason. If the team decides to do that, Stafford could expect to be one of the highest paid players in the league.
If the team doesn't re-sign Stafford, he will become a free agent after the 2017 season and could decide to test the waters.
Stafford was asked if a long-term extension is something he would like to take care of this offseason. "I'm not going to talk about it. I'm not going to waste my time with it right now. Ask me as many questions as you want about Jacksonville, but all that stuff is going to take care of itself. I'm not worried about it," he said in response.
The Lions host the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday.
