Lions QB encourages kids to be active

Parents, how much real physical activity do your kids get every day?

On Monday, Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford talked to kids at East Lansing's Glencairn Elementary School about being active for 60 minutes a day. He says it doesn't matter what kind of activity it is, as long as they're up and moving.

"You know I played every sport I could for as long as I possibly could before I pinned it down to football late in high school so just encourage parents not to make that decision for kids, let their kids make the decisions and what they want to get interested in and go play and support them," says Stafford.

Stafford threw passes to the students after the assembly. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan works on the Play 60 campaign with the Lions.

The company says almost 1-in-3 kids in Michigan is overweight or obese.
