Lions general manager Bob Quinn has said in the past that his draft strategy is "best man available". This year -- with what he calls a well-balanced draft class -- his strategy will remain the same.

"I think dependability is something that's really key, along with durability, ability to learn, competitive  nature, does he love football, passion... All the things that we talk about on a daily basis when we talk about players and the guys we want to add to this organization," Quinn said Thursday.

Quinn said he thinks there is a lot of depth at every position in this year's draft class. He couldn't (or wouldn't) get into specifics about what positions the Lions may be looking to fill.

"The way the roster is today, I don't think I'm in a position to reach for any position of so-called need. I think we're looking for good football players. Big, strong, tough competitive guys that are going to help us win, so I'm not eliminating any position," Quinn said.

He was asked what he would do with the No. 1 pick in the 2018 draft if he had it, and after a long pause with a contemplative smirk on his face he said, "I don't want to say anything in case I trade up."
