SAN FRANCISCO (WXYZ) -- During Saturday's NFL Honors red carpet show, former Lions running back Barry Sanders weighed in on the Calvin Johnson situation.

Host Nate Burleson, who, like Sanders, played in Detroit, asked for the Hall of Famer's reaction to the report of Johnson's possible retirement.

"We hope that we can work on him this offseason," said Sanders. "Maybe talk him into playing a couple more seasons."

"We know he's still a great player, but he has to make up his own mind, and we're gonna give him all offseason. Maybe around June or so, we'll start knocking on his door."
