Monica Hester is the principal at J.E. Clark Prepatory Academy. On Friday, she saw part of her school transformed.
"I just feel so full at this moment knowing that so many people give of their time to support student, to support staff, to support a school, a school district with the gift of reading," she said. "We have had a reading room slash library in our building that has been non functional for about seven years."
For the upcoming school year, that will all change with help from the Detroit Pistons and Farm Bureau Insurance.
"It’s exciting. It’s exciting to be able to remodel the school and help these kids out," says Pistons center Eric Moreland.
Moreland may actually be uniquely qualified to help out with this project.
"I have a degree in non profit organization so working with kids in around my speed so this is awesome," said Moreland.
Hester says these kids will be overwhelmed by the transformation.
"When the students come in and see the Detroit Pistons colors and logos and the players on the wall and the books organized and shelving and just the whole makeover of the reading room, the reaction is going to be a very grateful one," said Hester.
