(WXYZ) -- Detroit Pistons guard Dennis Smith Jr. spoke with reporters Wednesday for the first time since coming over in the trade that sent Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks.
"I was super excited," Smith said when asked about hearing the trade news. "I was down in the (G League) and was getting ready to go play with guys and have my first scrimmage when I heard the news, and I was just smiling all day."
Smith, a former top-10 draft pick, had only appeared in three games with New York this season before heading to the G League to get some more playing time.
"I'm just looking at it as an opportunity, a fresh start like me and (Dwane Casey) talked about, and I'll make the most out of it," said Smith.
