Detroit Tigers Starting Pitcher Michael Fulmer has been named Sporting News' American League Rookie of the Year, the magazine announced Monday.
According to Sporting News, Fulmer was chosen from a panel of 164 AL players.
Fulmer, 23, was 11-7 during his rookie season in 26 games. He had a 3.06 ERA with 132 strikeouts and a 1.12 WHIP.
“It’s an honor to earn a little respect from these guys,” Fulmer said to Sporting News. “I respect everybody I play against, so to get noticed like that, it’s really awesome.”
He was acquired by the Tigers at the trade deadline in the 2015 season that send Yoenis Cespedes to the Mets. Fulmer was in the Mets' Double-A organization at the time.
