Mark Dantonio has an early favorite in Michigan State's busy quarterback competition.
The most important word in that sentence is 'early.'
"Tyler O'Connor will go in as the leader in that situation, but that's gonna bear out over August camp and really, I think, over the first couple games," Dantonio said on Monday.
The Spartans head coach begins his 10th spring practices as the man in charge in East Lansing. He'll enter this season looking for Connor Cook's replacement under center.
O'Connor leads a group consisting of Damion Terry, Colar Kuhns, Brian Lewerke, and early enrollee Messiah DeWeaver.
"We've got a lot of different levels of experience there, but with that, I think it'll be an exciting quarterback race."
