Track star Sean English has come a long way since his tragic accident.

In April of last year, Sean and his parents stopped to help an overturned car along i-96 in Detroit.

He and cancer doctor Cynthia Ray, who also stopped to help, were hit by a car.

Ray died from her injuries, while Sean’s right leg was amputated below the knee.

Sean's dream of following his dad's footsteps and running track for Purdue were gone. But despite his dashed dream Sean has remained positive.

After waking from his medically induced coma, he promised everyone that someday he would run again.

After eight surgeries and three-day-a-week physical therapy sessions he got a prosthesis in July. He then immediately started to pester his therapist to let him start running.

And the persistence is paying off. The 17-year-old is getting his chance to finally realize his dream.
