The Detroit Red Wings announced Friday they have recalled forward Anthony Mantha from the Grand Rapids Griffins and placed Andreas Athanasiou on injured reserve.

Mantha, 22, leads the American Hockey League with eight goals in the first 10 games of the season. His 10 points also lead the Griffins.

Athanasiou was hit during the first period of the Red Wings' 3-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night. According to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press, he suffered a slight knee sprain and is expected to be out 1-2 weeks.

In 13 games this season, Athanasiou has four goals and an assist.
