The Detroit Lions announced on Monday that they will be adding cheerleaders for the 2016-2017 season.
The cheerleaders will be coached by Rebecca Girard-Smoker, who was hired as the Director of the Detroit Lions Cheerleaders.
They will perform choreographed dances and cheers as part of the in-game entertainment, according to the team. They will also have a presence in the community.
“The Ford Family is unwavering in their commitment to improving the Detroit Lions fan experience on and off the field," Team President Rod Wood said in a release. “After thorough consideration and receiving input from our fans through season ticket member surveys and focus groups, we believe that this is an opportunity to elevate our game day entertainment.”
Auditions are also happening for anyone wanting to be a cheerleader. The auditions will take place on Saturday, June 25 at Ford Field. You have to pre-register at Detroitlions.com/cheerleaders or by calling 313-262-2300. There is a $25 fee.
After auditions, there will be a 5-day training camp for finalists in mid-July with the full squad debuting in early August.
