The destruction left behind by Hurricane Harvey in Texas hits close to home for several members of Michigan State's football team, so they're using an upcoming bye-week to give back.
Next week 20 Spartans are planning to head to Texas to help relief efforts. Three Spartans are Houston natives, sophomore wide receiver Darrell Stewart, sophomore offensive lineman Tyler Higby, and wide receivers coach Terrence Samuel.
The trip is part of the "Lansing Strong For Texas" campaign which kicked off Wednesday. It's a partnership between Lansing's Mayor Virg Bernero, MSU's Coach Mark Dantonio, and several local businesses.
They're trying to raise money for the Red Cross and collect donations to send directly to southeast Texas.
As far as the Spartan's trip, nothing is set in stone. The team is still trying to work out the details, but the goal is to visit some of the hardest hit areas in Houston.
