Have you ever wished that shaving your legs was a shorter, less onerous process? If so, you might want to check out a hair removal product called The Scruffie.
This bendable razor features a flexible silicone band with five razor blades attached. You can buy refill blades for about $1 each, but the unit is also compatible with Gillette Mach3 refills. Because of its length and structure, it can easily fit around a leg to remove unwanted hair in one fell swoop.
Until recently, The Scruffie was available for $24.99, but it’s sold out right now. A note on the website from Dec. 23 indicates that an updated design with “minor changes,” the Scruffie 2.0, should be ready by Jan. 15, 2021. There’s no price set yet for the new version.
The Scruffie started out as a Kickstarter project originally called The Neck Shaver. According to the fundraising page, the project was first conceived at the Louisiana State University’s business school in 2016, where the prototype sketch went through a student incubator and then patents were filed in 2018. The Kickstarter was launched in June 2019 by creator Reid Simkovitz.
Simkovitz says he invented the product while at LSU because he couldn’t groom the hair at the back of his neck himself. He worked out a deal with a fellow student to do it for him on a regular basis, but one night he was going to a formal event and his personal neck groomer was unavailable.
“I was forced to attend this black-tie event with an embarrassingly hairy neck,” Simkovitz said in a Starter Story piece. “It was in that moment when a light bulb went off in my head that I’d have to create my razor. Almost like a … neck razor!”
The Scruffie was officially launched in April 2020 to reach those awkward hairs. A recent TikTok post from The Scruffie’s official account indicates that women actually make up most of the company’s customers right now, and shows the product being used to quickly and easily shave a leg.

According to another recent TikTok update, once the new design is created, an injection mold will be made. After that, Simkovitz and his crew can start manufacturing The Scruffie 2.0 for customers. So the product should be completed in 2021, but it’s not clear exactly how soon it will be available to the masses after that.
