LANSING, Mich — Some road work starting up Monday is going to create a bit of a mess on the north side of Lansing by the Grand River.
The City of Lansing is closing down Cesar E. Chavez Avenue between Capitol Avenue and Turner Street and Washington Avenue between Cesar E. Chavez Avenue and Maple Street beginning Monday, Apr. 29 for road construction and utility repairs.
The suggested detours are as follows:
-Westbound Cesar E. Chavez Ave.: Drivers will be detoured south on N. Cedar St. to Oakland Ave., west on Oakland Ave. to Capitol Ave., north on Capitol Ave. to return to Cesar E. Chavez Ave.
-Eastbound Cesar E. Chavez Ave.: Drivers will be detoured south on N. Capitol Ave. to Saginaw St., east on Saginaw St. to N. Larch St., north on N. Larch St. to return to Cesar E. Chavez Ave.
Road construction will commence at the Cesar E. Chavez and Washington Avenue intersection.
Access to businesses adjacent the construction is as follows:
-Businesses access east of the Washington Avenue and Cesar Chavez Avenue intersection: Drivers should travel westbound on Cesar E. Chavez Avenue from the Turner Street/Cesar E. Chavez Avenue intersection.
-Businesses access west of the Washington Avenue and Cesar Chavez Avenue intersection: Drivers should travel eastbound on Cesar E. Chavez Avenue from the Capitol Avenue/Cesar Chavez Avenue intersection.
-Businesses access south of the Washington Avenue and Cesar Chavez Avenue intersection: Drivers should travel northbound on Washington Avenue from the Washington Avenue/Maple Street intersection.
Drivers are urged to use alternate routes.
The closure is anticipated to last through Aug. 9.
