(WXYZ) — The Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association Educational Foundation said applications open Friday for employees affected by the partial shutdown to get grants up to $1,650.
The Michigan Department of Treasury will process the Employee Assistance Grants to approved people from the $45 million fund authorized under a Senate bill signed by Gov. Whitmer.
“Michigan’s restaurant and hotel employees are suffering right now, and they need help,” MRLA President & CEO Justin Winslow said in a release. “We are honored to be selected to administer these much-needed grants and take very seriously our responsibility to process them efficiently and effectively.”
According to the MRLA, the grants are not first-come, first-serve, meaning the applications will be open for submissions from Jan. 15-25.
You must be a Michigan resident and demonstrate proof of employment in one of the industries below that was forced to close due to the partial shutdown.
Those industries are:
- Bars
- Banquet Halls
- Bowling Allies
- Cafeterias
- Casinos
- Caterers
- Food Trucks
- Golf Courses
- Hotels, Motels, Bed & Breakfast, Resorts
- Nightclubs
- Restaurants
- Theaters
- And other such recreational facilities
The application window opens at 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15 with the deadline at 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 25. Applicants will be notified no later than Feb. 26 to confirm if their grant was approved or denied.
