Central Michigan University intends on opening its campus for the 2020-21 academic year for face-to-face instruction.
In a letter Monday, CMU President Bob Davies said the decision comes after many weeks of discussion and planning.
Right now, Davies said the university is finalizing plan for a phased return to campus that will keep people safe and provide exceptional learning opportunities.
Dear students, colleagues and friends:
"We also are focused on preserving CMU’s unique atmosphere and culture. We know many students choose CMU with hopes of participating in our many campus programs and activities, and we are excited to once again offer a robust on-campus living and learning experience," Davies said in the letter.
He also outlined a few of the ways the fall semester will look different with social distancing.
Occupancy rates in residence halls will be reduced; campus dining is reviewing practices; facilities and maintenance teams will adopt new pratices for cleaning and more.
Provost Schutten and other leaders are also developing plans for classrooms, labs and more, according to Davies.
That could include classes in new locations, reducing class size, and more.
"The health and safety of our students, faculty and staff remains our top priority, and we will continue to follow guidance from local, state and national health leaders as we move forward with plans to resume in-person instruction," he said.
