JACKSON, Mich — The city of Jackson is inviting community members to the Martin Luther King Center from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, April 29, to discuss an ongoing project aiming to enrich the MLK Equality Trail within the city of Jackson.

"We're hoping to gather public support and also gather public input about what people want to see along the trail on Jackson's south side," project leader and Ella Sharp Museum Director Diane Gutenkauf said.

The section of the trail set for updating runs from New Leaf Park on Fourth Street to the MLK Center located at 1107 Adrian St, and is roughly three miles long.

Ultimately, the group would like to create a "walking museum" along the trail that features African American history, whether that's local history, national history, something in between, or all of the above, Gutenkauf said.

"The group has been working diligently for the past couple of months and we're looking forward to working with more stakeholders moving forward," she said.

The meeting will begin after the Young People of Purpose's Parent Party at the MLK Center the same day, and will feature refreshments and food.

Project members will give a short overview of the project before allowing participants to work together, voice their opinion, and be heard.
