Posted

Brandon Publishing will host its 4th Annual BP School Reading Take Over in celebration of National Reading Month Friday, March 18, 2016. The event will run from 12:00pm-2:00pm at Willow Elementary School (1012 Willow Street). Brandon Publishing is teaming up with 30 community volunteers to read with 60 second grade students. This year, the students will all receive a copy of KT and the Radical Roundball written by former MSU men’s basketball player Kelvin Torbert and publisher at Brandon Publishing—Kellen Brandon.  Brandon Publishing has also partnered with several dedicated community sponsors: HOPEworldwide (Lansing Chapter), Domino’s Pizza, Kelvin Torbert’s Hope For A Better Tomorrow, and True Styles & Fades Barbershop.

Historically, BP School Reading Take Over has been a service provided in Flint, MI at Bryant Elementary School (which is now closed). Last year the event expanded to Lansing. The focus of this event is to celebrate the importance of reading while building healthy youth/adult relationships. BP School Reading Take Over provides incredible and organic fellowship opportunities for ongoing community partnerships.

Brandon Publishing was created in 2009 by Kellen Brandon as a full-service independent publishing company offering relief to authors from the stressors of self-publishing. Brandon Publishing also focuses on youth and community through signature programming such as: The Young Authors Program (a partnership with the Flint Public Library) and the Create Program (Create-A-Book, Create-A-Movie, and Create-A-Magazine) are both powerful programs focused on nurturing students and raising awareness toward literacy and non-traditional professional opportunities.

“This event was constructed in order to invest in the two most important things, the hearts of young people and the minds of young people. Planting positivity into them early will bear positive fruit from them later, which is a win-win for our cities.” –Kellen Brandon Publisher of Brandon Publishing
