Greater Lansing Ballet Company will present its exciting new ballet Robyn Hood on Saturday, May 7th at 6 p.m., and Sunday, May 8th at 4 p.m. at Pattengill Auditorium, Pattengill Academy, located at 626 Marshall Street in Lansing.
“Robyn Hood is an exciting new ballet production that proudly showcases the talents of over 40 local performers,” said Jim McEwan, artistic director of GLBC. “This all new ballet choreography makes Robyn Hood’s story a must see for people of all ages! Music by Aram Khachaturian, new beautiful costumes, sets and world class dancing will take the audience on an adventure of a lifetime.”
"Robyn Hood" tells the story of Robyn, a noble bandit who steals from the rich to give to the poor. This kindness draws the attention of Sir Marius, nephew of the King, and love interest of the Sheriff. When he wanders off to find Robyn, the Sheriff is infuriated and devises a trap, an archery contest, which Robyn will be unable to resist attending. When Robyn wins the tournament, the Sheriff captures her and throws her in jail. Robyn's friends, Little Joan and Nun Tuck, come up with a plan to break her out; however, Sir Marius is captured by the Sheriff during the escape and sentenced to death for aiding the bandit. Upon hearing this, Robyn and the people of the Forest rally to save him, finally ridding the town of the harsh Sheriff.
This exciting new ballet, choreographed by GLBC artistic director Jim McEwan, draws on the beautiful music of Aram Khachaturian to take the audience on a thrilling adventure through jealousy, romance, swordfights, and justice.
In his first year as artistic director, Mr. McEwan takes the helm of GLBC, founded 25 years ago under Barbara Banasikowski Smith. GLBC has a rich heritage, with many former dancers now performing professionally all over the world and on Broadway.
Tickets are $22 for adults, $16 for seniors and students, and $10 for children 12 and under.
